Friday 23rd January

What a wonderful week it has been in Year 5!

In English, the children have been diving into short‑burst writing, experimenting with metaphors and personification to bring their ideas to life. The children have really demonstrated a great grasp of how the weather can reflect the characters' mood.

In Maths, we have moved on to multiplying 2‑digit by 2‑digit numbers using the column method. The class showed real perseverance as they worked through each step carefully even when there were a lot of steps!

In Geography, our learning focused on the environmental impact of the food industry. The children explored how food production, packaging and transportation affect the planet, leading to thoughtful discussions about sustainability and the choices we make every day.

In Music, the children were excited to learn how to play C major on the ukulele. It was fabulous to hear the control and see the concentration around the room as they practised finger placement, strumming patterns and worked together to produce a clear, confident sound.

In RE, we explored how Muslims treat the Qur’an and why it is considered so sacred. The children approached the topic with maturity and respect, asking insightful questions and reflecting on how people show consideration for objects and beliefs that are important to them.

Home Learning Please ensure that children are ‘in the green’ on Doodle.

  • English – relative pronouns (who and whom)

  • Maths – 2 × 2‑digit multiplication

  • Spellings – child’s, they’re, students’, league, catalogue, unique, physique, rogue, you’re, they’ve

Please continue to encourage children to read aloud to an adult five times a week. This regular practice builds fluency, confidence and a love of reading.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend!
