This week in English, we have continued learning our model text and analysing it using our settings toolkit. The children answered a range of questions about the text, making sure to respond in full sentences. They then wrote a descriptive paragraph, and those who included the most effective sensory details had their writing transformed into pictures with the help of AI – a very exciting experience!
In Maths, we have been multiplying one-digit numbers by two- and three-digit numbers. We have also begun dividing two-digit numbers by one-digit numbers, using partitioning to break numbers into manageable multiples of the divisor.
During Science, we investigated the melting points of a variety of substances, including Babybel, Haribo, milk, dark and white chocolate, Red Leicester cheese, coconut oil and butter. The children carefully measured the temperature using thermometers and recorded their observations.
In Guided Reading, we explored an extract from The Tail of Emily Windsnap. Through choral reading, pupils are developing their fluency, confidence and expression.
In RE, we continued our learning about Hinduism, focusing on what Hindus believe ‘karma’ to be. The thoughtful questions created by the class were an excellent example of their deep thinking and curiosity.
This week in Geography, we learned about mountainous areas in the UK and how these are represented on maps. The children then created their own contoured mountains, applying their new knowledge creatively.
During PE, as part of our Challenging Collaborations unit, the class worked in groups of eight to travel across the hall using mats without touching the floor. It was wonderful to see the teamwork, problem-solving and discussions taking place.
Spellings this week focused on doubling consonants before adding a suffix. Please encourage children to practise using the sheet sent home or on Doodle Learning.
In Art, the children worked on maps instead of blank paper, using 2B graphite pencils to create bold lines against a busy background.
Finally, in Music, we continued learning the songs for Young Voices, practising both the lyrics and the actions in preparation for the performance.
Homework: 14 games on TTRS, reading 5 times and Doodle English and Maths. A reminder that the class can change their Library books every Thursday and their Reading book any day of the week.
