Friday 30th January

We’ve had a fabulous week in Year 3, showcasing our learning and shining our light.

In English, we have completed our toolkit tasks and are now busily compiling our ideas for our own portal stories. There is a real buzz in the air in Year 3 as the children excitedly compile their thoughts on their planning sheets!

In Maths, we have finished our unit on the 2, 3, 4, 5, 8 and 10 times tables and will now be moving on to a follow-up multiplication unit, where we will be applying our knowledge of multiplication and division in a variety of contexts. Please do utilise Doodle Times Tables to give your child further opportunities to practise their 2, 3, 4, 5, 8 and 10 times tables.

Foundation Subjects:

History – We have been exploring how the Egyptians constructed the pyramids and the purpose of these structures.

Art – We created designs for our own 3D food sculptures, which we will begin constructing next week.

Science – We carried out an investigation using magnets, exploring the north and south poles and whether they attracted or repelled each other.

PSHE – We discussed how medicines can be helpful but also harmful if they are not used properly.

Home Learning

Doodle - Please continue to support your child’s progress by accessing the Doodle Learning platform and remaining in the green zone for English, Maths and Times tables.

Reading - Please ensure that you have listened to your child read at least five times during the week and have signed their reading record each time.

Spellings - Below are this week’s spelling words to practise with your child, both in isolation as well as writing them in a sentence.  There are also 5 bonus words for those who would like to take on a spelling challenge.

This week’s spelling rule will focus on adding vowel suffixes after consonant + y / consonant + e

angriest,   replied,    hurrying,    smoky,    prettiest,    noisy,    lazier,    carrying

Challenge words

Identifying,   burying,   terrified,   applying,    grumpiest

Change maker project – This half term we are focusing on the value of ‘Trust’.  There is still time for your child to complete their entry for this project, as stickers will be awarded in two weeks’ time.   Please do continue supporting them as they collect and record evidence for their chosen activity.

If you have any newspapers at home that you don’t need, please could you send these in with your child next week, as we will be using these for the base of our 3D sculptures.  Many thanks

I wish you all a relaxing weekend and look forward to seeing you on Monday.
