What another brilliant week it has been in Year 5!

In English, the children have been working incredibly hard to complete their shared write for a setting description. It has been wonderful to see them applying their toolkit passionately and with great enthusiasm. Towards the end of the week, they began planning and drafting their independent write, and it has been a joy to watch their confidence grow as they take ownership of their ideas.

In Maths, we moved on to multiplying 4‑digit by 2‑digit numbers. This is a big step-up, but the children approached it with real determination. They have been carefully following each stage of the formal written method, checking for accuracy and showing great resilience when tackling more complex calculations.

In Geography, our learning focused on food miles. The children explored how far different foods travel before reaching our plates and discussed why this matters for the environment. They were fascinated to discover real life distances and are experts at using scale maps.

In Music, we deepened our understanding of musical notation and chords by learning how to play A minor. The children listened carefully, practised with focus and showed great teamwork as they supported one another to master the new chord shape.

Home Learning Please ensure that children are ‘in the green’ on Doodle.

  • English – differentiating between its and it’s

  • Maths – two‑step word problems

  • Spellings – special, especially, official, potential, essential, consequential, antisocial, martial, facial, celestial

Please continue to encourage your child to read aloud to an adult five times a week. This regular practice builds fluency, confidence and a lifelong love of reading.

The Change Maker Project: We continued our discussions in class-based Collective Worship about this half‑term’s Change Maker activities. Please encourage your child to complete one TRUST activity before the final week of the half‑term. We have loved seeing the thoughtful and creative contributions so far.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend!
