6th February 2026

The class has survived a long week. They were excellent representatives of St Marys on Tuesday at Young Voices. It was a joy to take them and see all their hard work pay off.
In English we have been hugging the model text. During our shared write it’s a pleasure to hear so many wonderful ideas and adventurous vocabulary, this then helps the children in their independent writing.
In Guided Reading, we have been looking at an excerpt from ‘What to do when you worry too much’ - there was an analogy for our worries building being depicted as tending to a tomato plant which grows out of control.
In Spelling, we looked at the -ous suffix. The spellings have been sent home today to be tested on Friday 13th February. They are also available to practise on Doodle.
In Art this week we created 3D places which highlights their sense of self, inspired by the artist Chris Kenny. This truly creative class were inspired by each other to add and enhance their creations.
In Maths we have started our topic: Length and Perimeter. The benefit of our maths starters each lesson is that we have secured our understanding that 1km is equal to 1,000 metres. We started looking at the perimeter today, understanding that this is the outside measurement of a shape (it can often be mistaken for area).
In Geography we looked at the different types of mountains: dome, fold, volcano, fault block and plateau. We then formed our own fold mountain to replicate how the tectonic plates cause the mountains to form over millions of years.
In PSHE we enjoyed a walk and talk and then thought about ‘dares’ or ‘challenges’. The discussion helped children understand the importance of standing up for themselves and haunt the confidence to say no.
In RE we made posters based on the wonderful work from the Sewa Day website which highlights the selfless acts we can carry out. We made posters to draw attention to what can be done.
Change Maker Project:
This weekend is the final opportunity for your child to complete their activity to show how they have reflected on this half-term's value of TRUST. Please continue supporting them as they collect and record evidence for their chosen activity. We are looking forward to the results next week!
I have sent home a multiplication pack to encourage the children to practice their times tables. This is to be completed by Monday 30th March. For completing the pack they will receive 5 house points. I have also recommended websites to help rehearse them:

Homework: Reading at least 5 times a week, 14 games on TTRS, Doodle English and Maths, Spellings.
