Friday 6th February

This week has been packed full of exploration, creativity and, of course, plenty of learning!

In English, we have begun drafting our own setting narratives, linking these to the theme of starting in one setting and travelling through a portal to arrive somewhere completely unexpected. We will be finalising and publishing these next week.

In Maths, we have worked on the related facts between multiplication and division and have started to explore how to multiply a 2-digit number by a 1-digit number. We will be building upon these themes next week.

Foundation Subjects:

History – We explored the reasons why the Egyptians mummified their pharaohs and how this linked to their beliefs about the afterlife.

Art – We thoroughly enjoyed constructing our 3D sculptures using newspaper and Modroc. These are really taking shape, and we cannot wait to paint them and add the finishing touches!

Science – We investigated and tested a variety of everyday materials to see if they had any magnetic properties, so that we could then classify them using a Carroll diagram.

PSHE – We built upon last week’s theme on medication by discussing why smoking and alcohol are not healthy for us.

Music – We learnt what a pentatonic scale is and used this as inspiration to create our own compositions to celebrate Chinese New Year.

RE - We are finding out what submission means to Muslims. Islam itself means submission. Last week we shone a light on Bilal who became the first muezzin, who calls Muslims to prayer 5 times a day, and this week we looked at how Muslims prepare themselves to pray, by washing. Then, we considered how their prayer positions reflect their attitude, of being ready, listening and humbling themselves before Allah. Next week we will consider our own ideas about submission and obedience.

Home Learning:

Doodle - Please continue to support your child’s progress by accessing the Doodle Learning platform and remaining in the green zone for English, Maths and Times tables.

Reading - Please ensure that you have listened to your child read at least five times during the week and have signed their reading record each time.

Spellings - Below are this week’s spelling words to practise with your child, both in isolation and writing them in a sentence.  There are also 5 bonus words for those who would like to take on a spelling challenge.

This week’s spelling rule will

moaned,   dragged,   screaming,    begging,   hottest,    tricky,     gripping,   flipped

Challenge words -

drippy,    slimmer,     groaned,      roaming,     planner

Change maker project – Please could your child bring in their Change maker entry for the value of Trust as we will be awarding stickers next week.

Next week:

To begin Art Week on Monday, we will be welcoming an engineer from the Eversholt Rail Project, who will be helping us to construct our locomotives.

We will also be exploring the artwork of Spanish artist Miró during the week and creating our own masterpieces inspired by his work.

Have a wonderful weekend
