Friday, 13th February

With Art Week in full swing, the children have thrown themselves into every activity with enthusiasm and creativity. We began with a whole‑school assembly introducing the artist Joan Miró, exploring his playful shapes, bold colours and imaginative style. Inspired by his work, we then set about creating our own 3D name sculptures, using Miró’s techniques to bring our designs to life. These fantastic pieces will be proudly displayed in our Art Showcase after half term.

In History, we concluded our World War II topic by learning about the final stages of the war, the reasons it came to an end, and how people across Britain celebrated VE Day. The children showed great maturity in discussing the relief, joy and hope felt at the time and created excellent commemorative booklets.

Our Science lessons brought plenty of excitement too, as we used motors to create our very own electric fans, rounding off our unit on electricity. The children loved seeing their circuits come to life and understanding how motors convert electrical energy into movement.

In RE, we explored bhakti yoga, learning how Hindus show love and devotion to the gods—particularly Krishna—through music, dance, prayer and daily actions. This has made us even more excited for our upcoming trip to Neasden Temple, where we will see these ideas in a real‑life setting.

Finally, in Positive Minds, we discussed gaming as a coping strategy—how it can be enjoyable and helpful, but also how it can become unhelpful if not balanced with other activities. We also looked at the size of the gaming industry and discovered just how many people of all ages play games around the world.

Home Learning
There are no Doodle assignments set over half term. There are two pieces of optional revision uploaded to the classwork space on Google Classroom (Arithmetic and SPAG), should you wish to practise over the holidays.
Please continue to read regularly and log this in your reading record.

After half term:
We have our trip to Neasden Temple on Wednesday, 26th February.
On Friday, 28th, we have a whole-school visit from M&M productions to perform The Wizard of Oz to begin Book Week the following week.
In Maths, we will continue with our topic on decimals, learning to multiply and divide these.
In English, we will be learning the features of recounts in the form of autobiographies, including using the active and passive voice, and adverbials to contrast and for coherence.

Have an enjoyable, relaxing and safe half term break!
