Friday, 27th January

This week in Year 6 has been full of rich learning, memorable experiences and exciting opportunities across the curriculum.
On Wednesday, we visited Neasden Temple as part of our learning about Hinduism. The children were amazed by how beautiful, detailed and grand the building was. We watched a prayer ceremony and learnt about the incredible craftsmanship and dedication that went into creating the temple. The visit helped bring our RE learning to life and gave the children a deeper understanding of Hindu worship and community.
In Positive Minds, we explored the positives and negatives of social media. We discussed how the number of followers, likes or money someone has online does not reflect their self‑worth. The children thought carefully about how to stay safe, balanced and confident in a digital world.
We have begun our new RE topic on Salvation. This week, we looked at the Gospel of Luke and explored the evidence it gives for the resurrection. The children asked thoughtful questions and showed great curiosity about the text.
In Geography, we investigated why population changes over time. We looked at different factors that influence population growth and decline, and the children enjoyed analysing how these changes affect communities.
Next week, we begin our new Science topic: Evolution and Inheritance. If you are happy for us to use a family photo in class, please refer to the separate email from the school office.
Next week is Book Week, and we will be celebrating World Book Day on Thursday. To kickstart the excitement, today we enjoyed a fantastic performance of The Wizard of Oz by the M&M production company. The show was magical, engaging and a wonderful way to launch our week of reading celebrations.
Home Learning
You have the following assignments set on Doodle:
Maths - Multiply decimals by whole numbers
English - Using adverbials of time, place and number

Next Week:
World Book Day is on Thursday. Children are invited to dress as their favourite character or author. They should bring their PE kit in a bag to change into for the afternoon.
On Friday, we are participating in 'bedtime stories' where children will choose a book they would like to hear read by a member of staff, and enjoy a story time with a drink and a biscuit. Children are invited to wear pyjamas on this day.
In Maths, we will be beginning a topic on fractions, decimals and percentages. We will be learning about fraction as division to support us in finding equivalents.
In English, we are learning to use the features of autobiographical recounts. We will be learning how active and passive sentences can be used in autobiographies, as well as using irony sentences to demonstrate a state or event.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Mrs Rayburn
