6th March

Year 2 has had a wonderfully busy and exciting Book Week! The children took part in a fantastic poetry session and even combined maths and magic during a fractions lesson where they created their very own Harry Potter–inspired potions. It was a brilliant way to make learning fractions fun and creative.

On Thursday, we celebrated World Book Day with some amazing costumes. The classroom was filled with a wonderful variety of book characters! One of the highlights of the week was also our much-loved Masked Singer competition, which the children thoroughly enjoyed watching and guessing.

Earlier in the week, on Tuesday afternoon, we took part in our Easter Experience. The children explored the Easter story in a very interactive way. They re-enacted Palm Sunday, felt what a crown of thorns might have been like, and even tasted some unleavened bread. It was a memorable way to help them understand the events of the Easter story.

In English, we have been exploring a range of fairy tales and practising how to use the conjunctions “when” and “or” in sentences.
Next week, we will be learning about question sentences, including what open-ended and rhetorical questions are.

In maths we have now completed our fractions topic—well done to the children for their hard work! Next week we will begin a new unit on statistics, where we will learn about tally charts, bar graphs, and pictograms.

Foundation Subjects this week:

  • Music: Learning the song “Once a Man Fell in a Well” and practising how to follow pitch patterns.
  • RE: Revisiting and exploring the Easter story.
  • PE: Developing our throwing and catching skills.
  • History: Learning about the sequence of events in the Great Fire of London.
  • Science: Animals and their young
  • DT: The Eatwell plate and shining a light on Mary Berry

It has been a fantastic week full of creativity, learning, and celebration. We are very proud of how enthusiastically the children have taken part in all the activities!
