Friday 13th March
We have had a busy and productive week in Year 3, filled with creativity, curiosity and fantastic learning across the curriculum.
This week in English, we continued applying the steps needed to compose exciting complex sentences. We also looked at adverbials of time to link and sequence events, as well as prepositional phrases to describe a setting.
In Maths, we have completed our unit on length and measurement and have made a start on our new unit on fractions. We will be continuing with this next week, learning about the terms denominator and numerator, and then moving on to comparing and ordering fractions.
Foundation Subjects:
Geography – We looked at how certain animals and plants have adapted to survive in desert conditions.
Science – This week we took a detailed look at the human skeleton and discovered the names of different bones and why this structure is important for the human body.
Music – We focused on musical notation, discussing how many beats are needed for a minim, crotchet and a quaver.
PSHE – We identified areas around the school environment that we could take care of and mind mapped methods of ways we could achieve this.
RE - This week we learned how Christians from different traditions remember Good Friday and Easter Sunday. We heard from Nathan, an Anglican from Liverpool, and Lara, a Catholic who lives in Jerusalem. Lara shared that one way Catholics remember Good Friday is by walking in a procession through the city, following the route that Jesus Christ is believed to have taken.
Home Learning:
Doodle – Please continue to support your child’s progress by accessing the Doodle Learning platform and remaining in the green zone for English, Maths and Times Tables.
Reading – Please ensure that you listen to your child read at least five times during the week and sign their reading record each time.
Spellings – Below are this week’s spelling words to practise with your child, both in isolation and within a sentence. There are also five bonus words for those who would like to take on a spelling challenge.
This week’s spelling rule focuses on
listening, beginning, regretted, offering, visited, pretending, follower,

Challenge words:

Change Maker Project -
This half term we are focusing on the value of ‘Forgiveness’.
Please do continue supporting your child as they collect and record evidence of their chosen activity.
