13th March

Maths – This week we have been learning how to convert mixed numbers into improper fractions and how to find equivalent fractions. If you would like to review converting mixed numbers into improper fractions at home, you can watch this helpful video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KEmCZGbd4R8

We also began exploring tenths and will be moving on to decimals next week.

English – In English, we finished learning our recount model text. We answered reading comprehension questions based on the text, looked at formal and informal language and looked at how reported speech is used in newspaper writing.

PSHE – We explored the rules and laws that protect children around the world, particularly those set out by the United Nations. It was interesting to learn that, although these rights exist, not all children are fully protected by them in every country.

DT – As we will be planning and making fruit pies this term, we looked at which fruits and vegetables are grown at different times of the year. We focused particularly on fruits that are in season during spring, which we may choose to use when designing our pies.

RE – We looked at the symbols used during Communion and discussed what they represent. For example, bread represents the body of Christ and grapes represent the blood of Christ, which washes away sins.

Science – We investigated how vibrations create sound and how sound waves travel through particles. We demonstrated this by placing a bowl of water on top of a speaker, playing bass-heavy music, and observing the ripples formed by the vibrations.

Spelling – We have been focusing on some of the Lower Key Stage 2 common exception words. The class were sent home today with spellings to practise, and they are also available on Doodle Learning for additional rehearsal.

Guided Reading – We have been reading the non-fiction book Lightning Mary.

Please continue to support your child by encouraging them to read five times a week, as we are working hard to develop both fluency and comprehension. TTRS and Doodle assignments have been set, due for completion by the evening of Thursday 19th March.

We would also appreciate your support in encouraging your child to complete one of the Forgiveness Change Maker Project activities. There are two weeks remaining until the end of term.

Finally, we would like to warmly invite all parents to our Easter Service on Thursday 26th March at 6pm. It will be a very special service, with all pupils singing and taking part. Year 4 will be leading the service by performing readings and acting out parts of the Easter story.
