Friday 20th March

Year 3 have worked extremely hard this week, whether this has been in class during lessons, taking part in the DT locomotive workshop, or performing as part of the fabulous Oliver cast. They have all earned a well-deserved rest over the weekend.

This week in English, we boxed up our model text by summarising the key points of each paragraph. This leads us nicely on to using it as inspiration for our class shared write, in the style of a letter recount, based on Paddington’s first day in London.

In Maths, we have explored the terms denominator and numerator, and how these apply to both unit and non-unit fractions. We then moved on to comparing and ordering a variety of fractions, and finished the week by looking at whole fractions. We will be building on this next week.

Foundation Subjects:

Geography – We shone a light on the Bedouin people, a nomadic tribe who live in the Sahara Desert. We explored their way of life and how they have adapted to survive the harsh desert conditions.

Science – This week, we explored how our various muscle groups work and learned what the terms ‘voluntary muscles’ and ‘involuntary muscles’ mean. We then made a model of the arm to demonstrate how the biceps and triceps contract.

Music – We created our own Viking call songs and, as a class, developed actions to accompany the final performance of the Viking rowboat song we have been working on over the past few sessions.

DT – We added wheels and gears to our locomotives, as well as creating the outer covering to bring our designs to life.

Home Learning:

Doodle – Please continue to support your child’s progress by accessing the Doodle Learning platform and remaining in the green zone for English, Maths and Times Tables.

Reading – Please ensure that you listen to your child read at least five times during the week and sign their reading record each time.

Spellings – Below are this week’s spelling words to practise with your child, both in isolation and within a sentence.

There are also five bonus words for those who would like to take on a spelling challenge.

This week’s spelling rule focusses on adding the -ly suffix.

Weekly,   easily,   instantly,   likely,   angrily,   perfectly,    usually,   busily

Challenge words:

Primarily,  readily,   directly,  completely,   ordinarily

Change Maker Project-

This half term, we are focusing on the value of forgiveness.

Please could your child bring in evidence for the task they chose to work on this half term. We will need this by Wednesday 25th March.

Next week:

On Monday 23rd March, we will be taking part in a Healthy Heroes workshop to complement our Science topic on the human body. Please send your child into school wearing their PE kit for this workshop.

On Friday 27th March, we are looking forward to our annual Easter Bonnet Parade and seeing all of your wonderful creations. We will also be finishing at 1:15pm on this day for the Easter holidays.

Dates for your diary:

We would like to invite you to our Easter service on Thursday 26th March at 6pm. It will be a very special and memorable service, with all pupils singing and taking part.

You will have received an email about our forthcoming trip to the British Museum, due to take place on Thursday 23rd April. Please could we kindly ask you to make payment via School Gateway. If you wish to be entered into the draw to accompany us on this trip, please indicate this on the Gateway as well.

Have a wonderful weekend in the spring sunshine
