Friday 20th March

This week in English, we planned our own versions of the model text. We carefully ‘boxed up’ our ideas so that we can follow the clear structure of the original newspaper report when we begin writing.
In Maths, we have been focusing on decimals to one decimal place, specifically tenths. We explored how to convert fractions into decimals (for example, 2/10 = 0.2) and practised adding and subtracting fractions. This often involved converting whole numbers into improper fractions to help us solve calculations more accurately.
In RE, we enjoyed creating thoughtful ‘memory boxes’ to represent something important in our lives. We considered what we wanted to celebrate and remember — whether a special person, place, or event. After decorating a cuboid net, we illustrated our chosen memory inside before assembling it into a 3D box using string. The results were both creative and meaningful.
In PSHE, we explored how we can be influenced by others. We discussed the importance of forming our own opinions and expressing them in a courteous and respectful way.
In DT, we planned our fruit pie recipes based on the ingredients we trialled earlier in the week. We are very much looking forward to making our pies next week!
In Science, we investigated how our voices change when sound waves travel through a balloon. We used some fantastic scientific vocabulary, including ricocheting, echoes, vibrates and reverberates, to describe what we observed.
In Guided Reading, we focused on One Million Insects, which proved to be a highly engaging and informative text.
Finally, it was a privilege to watch 12 members of Year 4 perform in the wonderful production of Oliver!. They were absolutely fantastic and should feel incredibly proud to have been part of such a brilliant show.
