Friday 17th April

Welcome back! I hope you all had a wonderful Easter break and are feeling excited and refreshed for the Summer Term.

In English, we have started writing our own letter recounts, incorporating our focus toolkits as well as others we have used in previous writing topics. In our letters, we are imagining what it would be like to visit the Sahara Desert and all the delights we might experience. We will be continuing this work next week.

In Maths, we have just completed our first unit on Fractions and will be moving on to Mass and Capacity next week.

Foundation Subjects:

Geography – We have completed our topic on Deserts and will be moving back to History next week, starting with our trip to the British Museum to fully immerse ourselves in the wonders of Ancient Egypt—we cannot wait!

Art & DT – This week, we added the final touches to our locomotive covers, and they all look amazing! We now need to create a switch and wire these to our models to enable them to move forwards and backwards.

PSHE – We began our new topic, ‘Being My Best’, focusing this week on our health and what we can do to stay healthy and prevent illness.

Home Learning:

Doodle
Please continue to support your child’s progress by accessing the Doodle Learning platform and ensuring they remain in the green zone for English, Maths and Times Tables.

Reading
Please ensure that you listen to your child read at least five times each week and sign their reading record on each occasion. This allows them to be rewarded with a star stamp for their efforts.

Spellings
Below are this week’s spelling words to practise with your child, both in isolation and within sentences. There are also five bonus words for those who would like to take on an extra spelling challenge.

This week’s spelling rule continues to focus on words ending in the ‘ly’ suffix.

Gently, sneakily, wriggly, exactly, possibly, crumbly, luckily, differently

Challenge words:
Dramatically, humbly, drowsily, logically, warily

British Museum Trip

We have our trip to the British Museum on Thursday 23rd April. Please could you kindly make payment via the School Gateway if you have not already done so.

I will meet you and the children at Rickmansworth Station at 8:45am. The children will need to bring a nut-free packed lunch, a snack and a water bottle, all in a rucksack that they are happy to carry themselves.

Fingers crossed the weather stays dry, but they will still need to bring a coat or jacket just in case.

They are all really looking forward to our day out, and I’m sure it will be a memorable experience for them all.
