Friday, 24th April
We have enjoyed exploring our new topics this week and have been thoroughly enjoying the sunshine!
In RE, we have begun our new unit on Humanism. The children explored what Humanists believe, including the importance of reason, kindness and living a good life without relying on religious teachings. They asked thoughtful questions and showed great curiosity about different worldviews.
In Science, we continued our work on evolution by learning about Charles Darwin’s discoveries on the Galapagos Islands. The children were fascinated by the different finches and tortoises Darwin studied, and they explored how these observations helped him develop his theory of evolution by natural selection. Their explanations and scientific thinking are really developing.
In DT, preparations are well underway for our Come Dine With Me cooking project. Each group has now planned a starter, main course and dessert, thinking carefully about flavour, presentation and teamwork. We’re looking forward to seeing (and tasting!) their creations later this half term.
In Geography, we have been learning about coastlines, focusing on different types of weathering and erosion. The children took part in practical investigations, including blowing sand across surfaces to model wind erosion and mixing bicarbonate of soda with vinegar to observe chemical weathering. These activities helped them see how landscapes can change over time.
