Friday 24th April
Year 3 have had a busy week full of imaginative exploration and, of course, lots of learning.
Thank you again for your understanding and patience while we navigated this week’s tube strike and made alternative arrangements for our trip.
In English, we have now completed our letter recounts and will be finalising the editing on Monday, ready to publish next week.
In Maths, we have been exploring how to measure mass using grams and kilograms. Next week, we will build on this by comparing, adding, and subtracting mass.
Foundation Subjects:
DT – We have started a new sewing project to create our own Egyptian collars. This week, we compared traditional and modern designs and created our own, which we will turn into fabric templates next week.
Science – We began our unit on plants by setting up an investigation to test the impact of removing one of the factors plants need to grow successfully. We have set up five different pots, each with a different factor removed, and will be monitoring them over the next few weeks to observe what happens.
PSHE – This week, we moved on to learning about the internal organs in our bodies and the role each one plays in keeping us healthy by helping food, water, and air move through the body and into the bloodstream.
Home Learning:
Doodle
Please continue to support your child’s progress by accessing the Doodle Learning platform and ensuring they remain in the green zone for English, Maths and Times Tables.
Reading
Please ensure that you listen to your child read at least five times each week and sign their reading record on each occasion. This allows them to be rewarded with a star stamp for their efforts.
Spellings
Below are this week’s spelling words to practise with your child, both in isolation and within sentences. There are also five bonus words for those who would like to take on an extra spelling challenge.
This week’s spelling rule continues to focus on words ending in the ‘ly’ suffix.
sneakily, recently, twinkly, wriggly, terribly, personally, visibly, strangely
Challenge words:
alphabetically, drastically, absolutely, precisely, naughtily
Next week:
We will be starting our recorder lessons on Monday. If you purchased a recorder yourself (not through the school office), please ensure your child brings it in.
Our rescheduled trip to the British Museum will take place on Friday 1st May. Please could you make payment via the School Gateway if you have not already done so.
I will meet you and the children at the front of Rickmansworth Station at 8:45am.
The children will need to bring a nut-free packed lunch, a healthy snack and a water bottle, all in a rucksack that they are happy to carry themselves.
Fingers crossed the weather stays dry, but they will still need to bring a coat or jacket just in case.
Next week's dates:
Friday 1st May - Year 3 - Class trip to the British Museum
Friday 1st May - afterschool - Bake Sale
