Friday 1st May

This week has been full of highlights, with everyone thoroughly immersing themselves in the world of Ancient Egypt during today’s trip to the British Museum.

In English, we have been editing, up levelling, and publishing our letter recounts.  Next week, we will be finishing off the final touches to our published pieces, and moving on to a new unit focusing on suspense - more details will be revealed next week.

In Maths, we have continued our work on measuring mass in a variety of contexts. Next week, we will be focusing on capacity.

Foundation Subjects:

History – As well as our fantastic field trip to the British Museum, we have produced a Venn diagram comparing life in the Stone Age with Ancient Egypt.

Science – We identified the different parts of a flowering plant and explored their functions. We also looked at the role of leaves in the process of photosynthesis.

PSHE – This week, we reflected on our own achievements and the steps needed to reach our goals. We then considered areas for improvement and identified who could support us in working towards these.

Music – We really enjoyed our first recorder lesson! We learned the notes B and A, and how to hold a recorder correctly to achieve the desired sound. If you purchased a recorder independently (not through the school office), please ensure your child brings it into school next week, ready for Thursday.

RE - This week in R.E we looked at how the Day of  Pentecost is depicted in art. We also thought about what the Kingdom of God is and what it is like; summarising it as not a place, but people who make God their king and who try to love God and others.

Home Learning

Doodle

Please continue to support your child’s progress by accessing the Doodle Learning platform and ensuring they remain in the green zone for English, Maths, and Times Tables.

Reading

Please ensure you listen to your child read at least five times each week and sign their reading record on each occasion. This allows them to be rewarded with a star stamp for their efforts. Also, please ensure that reading books are brought into school on their allocated changing day, as noted on the front of their reading records.

Spellings

Below are this week’s spelling words to practise with your child, both in isolation and within sentences. There are also five bonus words for those who would like an extra challenge.

This week’s spelling rule focusses on words ending in the ‘-ous’ suffix:

nervous, poisonous, hazardous, adventurous, courageous, dangerous, joyous, mountainous

Challenge words:

perilous, villainous, outrageous, carnivorous, venomous

Change Maker Project

This half term, we are focusing on the value of ‘Courage’. Your child has selected an activity to work on during our class-based collective worship. Please continue to support them as they collect and record evidence of their chosen activity.

Dates for next week
