What another great week we have had in Year 5!

In Maths, we are looking at statistics. We have practised drawing our own line graphs and understand that the horizontal 'x' axis is usually used for units of time.

We learnt in Science how night and day happen. The rotation of the earth and when a country faces the sun is what makes day and night happen, not the sun moving across the sky. In addition, the children learnt that seasons are caused by the axis tilt of our Earth. When the axis is facing away from the sun, we will experience winter in the northern hemisphere.

We have begun planning our shared write for our suspense writing unit in English. We will be taking the model text which is about 'Red' (an adaptation of Little Red Riding Hood) and writing about Jack and the Beanstalk. The children have been giving great ideas and I have been really impressed with the deeper and relevant vocabulary everyone is trying to use.

In RE, the children looked at their 'shining a light figure'. This is a graffiti artist called Muhammad Ali. Through his art, the children explored the concept that everything has a ripple effect.

In History, we explored some of the fascinating discoveries made my scholars during the Golden Age of Islam. Modern day medicine and surgery was very much influenced by those of the time we are learning. One such example is cauterisation - burning a wound to seal it and kill off bacteria!

Please can children begin to bring in their change maker project. Well done to those who have already completed theirs!
