What a fantastic week of learning we have had in Year 1!
In Maths, we have been learning about sharing and grouping. The children explored how objects can be shared equally between groups and how to sort objects into groups of the same size. We used practical resources, pictures, and lots of discussion to help build our understanding. The children worked brilliantly when explaining their thinking and showing how they solved different problems.
In English, we have been focusing on describing settings to build suspense. We thought carefully about how authors make places sound mysterious, exciting, or a little bit scary! The children used powerful adjectives and descriptive phrases to create their own suspenseful settings. We were very impressed with their imaginative ideas and growing confidence in their writing.
In Science, we became nature detectives as we explored the playground to identify different wild flowers. The children carefully observed the flowers they could find and discussed similarities and differences between them. We enjoyed learning the names of some common wild flowers and talking about why plants are important in our environment.
In RE, we learned about The Creation Story. We discussed the story together and then worked hard to place the events in the correct order. The children showed great understanding as they retold the story with actions and talked about what Christians believe about creation.
Well done to all of Year 1 for another wonderful week of learning!
To support learning at home, please continue to read at least five times a week and record this in your child’s reading record.
