15th May 2026
This week in maths, we have been learning about fractions. We have been focussing on halving. We explored what it means to split things into two equal parts. We practised halving both shapes and quantities, making sure that each half was equal. The children showed great care and understanding when sharing amounts fairly.
In English, we have been planning and beginning to write our own suspense stories. The children have been working extremely hard to develop their ideas. We have focused on improving our handwriting, using exciting language to build suspense, and planning our stories carefully before writing them. There have been some wonderfully imaginative ideas developing!
In science, we have been learning about the difference between evergreen and deciduous trees. We have also continued observing a tree we have been studying throughout the year. The children have been recording how it changes in each season, noticing differences in its appearance over time.
In history, we have been learning about the history of flight. We discovered that before aeroplanes, people used hot air balloons to fly. We discussed how flight has changed over time and how technology has developed to create the planes we use today.
In RE, we have been learning about the Jewish day of rest. We explored how Jewish people celebrate this special day and why it is an important time for rest, family, and reflection.
Homework:
To support learning at home, please continue to read at least five times a week and record this in your child’s reading record. Spellings have gone out this week, so regular practice will be helpful. Please also keep up with handwriting practice, ensuring letters are formed correctly.
We are handing out Changmaker stickers this Friday for courage, so please have a chat with your child about which activity they would like to complete.
Remember to keep working on the phonics challenge. We can't wait to give out the Headteacher Award for any children that have completed the 10 challenges.
