Friday 15th May

Well done Year 6, we could not be prouder of the children for the way they approached their SATs assessments this week. They took every challenge in their stride and showed such maturity, resilience and determination throughout. Most importantly, they supported one another brilliantly, encouraged each other and continued to shine as a team.

To celebrate the end of SATs week, we finished with a well-deserved pizza and movie party! It was lovely to spend some time together relaxing, laughing and celebrating all of the children’s efforts and achievements.

This also gave us an opportunity to say our farewells to Mrs Rayburn as she now begins her maternity leave. We would like to say a huge thank you to Mrs Rayburn for all of her dedication, care and hard work with Year 6 this year, and especially for staying to support the children through SATs week. We know the children (and staff!) will miss her greatly and we send her lots of love and best wishes as she begins this exciting new chapter.

There was also lots of excitement this week as the children were given their scripts for the Year 6 production, Gigglebox

In DT, we completed the final cooking stage of our Come Dine With Me project by making our desserts. The children worked carefully to prepare and present their dishes and showed excellent teamwork and creativity throughout the process. Next week, we will be evaluating our final products and reflecting on the skills we have developed during the project.

Next week is STEM Week and the whole school focus will be Planet Earth Explorers inspired by the life work of David Attenborough. As part of our Science learning, Year 6 will be revisiting their understanding of natural selection and animal adaptations by shining a light on Charles Darwin and his discoveries on the Galápagos Islands. The children will reflect on how Darwin’s observations helped develop the theory of natural selection and changed scientific understanding forever.

Later in the week, the Year 6 children will be planning and leading science experiments for classes across the school on Thursday. They will also be creating informative leaflets for the younger children to take home and share with their families, helping to spread their knowledge and enthusiasm for science beyond the classroom. We are very excited to see the children step into these leadership roles and inspire others through STEM learning.
