Friday 22nd May 2026

We have had a very productive week in Year 5 for the final week of Summer 1 term.

In Maths, we have looked at some of the rules around angles. We learnt that angles around a point will always sum to 360 degrees whilst angles on a straight angle sum to 180 degrees. We have also looked at the differences between regular and irregular polygons.

The children have been delving deep into their independent writes. Everyone is using all the toolkit features to structure a really successful independent write on the theme of a suspense narrative. The suspense endings have been especially emphasised by the use of an ellipsis...

The children thoroughly enjoyed learning how we see different phases of the moon and drew some excellent diagrams to show this. They learnt that when the moon becomes more illuminated, we call this the waxing phase and when it becomes less illuminated, we call this the waning phase.

In RE, the children were very lucky to have a visitor called Shaheen come to talk to them about Hajj. It was fascinating to here her talk about the traditions and expectations of the pilgrimage. The children asked respectful and insightful questions and we are very thankful to Shaheen for providing us as insight into this aspect of Islam.
