Friday 5th June
Welcome back after the half-term break. I hope you all enjoyed the sunshine, had a well-deserved rest, and feel ready for the final half-term in Year 3.
In English, we have been getting our creative juices flowing by utilising our featured toolkits to create our own suspense stories. We will be finishing publishing these next week and discovering a clue that will lead us to our final writing theme of the year.
In Maths, we have now finished our unit on fractions and will be moving on to money next week.
Foundation Subjects:
Geography – We started our new unit on rainforests by identifying where they are located around the world and exploring key features, including the four main layers of a rainforest.
DT – We learnt how to produce a cross-stitch and appliqué a material shape onto another piece of fabric. Next week, we will be applying these skills to begin sewing our own Egyptian collars.
Music – We reviewed and consolidated everything we have learnt so far on the recorder, through a quiz.
Home Learning
Doodle
Please continue to support your child’s progress by accessing the Doodle Learning platform and ensuring they remain in the green zone for English, Maths, and Times Tables.
Reading
Please ensure you listen to your child read at least five times each week and sign their reading record on each occasion. This allows them to be rewarded with a star stamp for their efforts. Please also ensure that reading books are brought into school on their allocated changing day, as noted on the front of their reading records.
Spellings
Below are this week’s spelling words to practise with your child, both in isolation and within sentences.
This week’s spelling rule focusses on a mastery level of adding the -ly suffix:
dramatically, perfectly, terribly, ordinarily, readily, cowardly, wrinkly, logically, directly, exactly
Change Maker Project
This half term, we are focusing on the value of Perseverance. Your child has selected an activity to work on during our class-based collective worship. Please continue to support them as they collect and record evidence of their chosen activity.
Next Week
We have our trip to Kew Gardens on Friday 12th June to enhance our Geography topic on rainforests. Please could you kindly make payment via School Gateway if you have not already done so.
The children will need to bring a nut-free packed lunch, a snack, and a water bottle, all in a rucksack that they are happy to carry themselves.
Fingers crossed the weather stays dry, but they should still bring a waterproof jacket just in case.
They are all really looking forward to our day out, and I am sure it will be a memorable experience for everyone.
Dates for next week:
Monday 8th June – choir singing at Riverside Lodge – smart uniform
Friday 12th June – Year 3 class trip to Kew Gardens
Emails sent this week:
Summer holiday club
Menu change
Parent and child maths workshop
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend
Mrs Collett
