Another busy week in Year 5!
We have begun planning our shared writes for our persuasive writing unit after having a class debate - 'Should exploring space be more important than looking after our own planet?' The children put forward cohesive arguments for both sides and a 'jury' analysed their evidence and voted for which side was more persuasive. It was lovely seeing the children use effective language and see them articulate their points carefully.
In Maths, we are currently exploring negative numbers and have begun to look at strategies for how we can 'cross zero' by thinking about the intervals between the negative numbers and using 0 as a benchmark.
This week in RE, we considered forgiveness and looked at two different historical situations where people forgave those who had harmed them. The children gave careful consideration to the concept of 'what would Jesus do' when justifying their ideas - referencing well different parts of the Gospel for examples of where Jesus and others forgave.
In Science, we looked at what happens to us as humans as we age. The children learnt about the changes to us physically and mentally and suggested ways that we can look after ourselves to keep us healthy as we go through life such as protecting our skin with suncream and making healthy lifestyle choices.
