What a wonderfully warm week we've had in Year 1! Despite the hot weather, the children have worked incredibly hard and shown fantastic enthusiasm in all of their learning.
In Maths, we have been learning all about money. The children have been recognising different coins and notes, talking about their values and practising adding them together to work out the total amount. We have been so impressed with how confidently they have been using their maths skills in real-life situations.
In English, we have been busy planning our final set of instructions for making a refreshing summer drink. The children have been thinking carefully about using clear, step-by-step instructions, bossy verbs and time words to help their reader follow the recipe. We can't wait to write our finished instructions next week!
In Science, our budding engineers have been designing and making houses while thinking about the materials they should use. We explored the different properties of materials and discussed why certain materials are best suited for particular jobs. The children worked brilliantly to create houses that would protect the people inside from the weather.
In Art, we explored a range of printing techniques. The children enjoyed experimenting with different objects and materials to create a variety of colourful patterns and textures. It was wonderful to see their creativity and imagination shine through.
This week has also been Sports Week, and the children have had a fantastic time taking part in a range of exciting activities. They showed excellent teamwork, determination and resilience while trying new challenges and encouraging one another. It has been wonderful to see everyone getting involved, having fun and celebrating each other's successes.
