Welcome to Year 4!

We hope you have all had a wonderful summer and are ready for an exciting year of learning and making memories. We are really looking forward to a fabulous year ahead — and we are already off to a fantastic start!

The children have settled into their new routines brilliantly and have shown great enthusiasm for their learning this week.

In English, we have begun exploring our model text, a finding tale. We have been focusing on reading and writing 2A sentences and using similes to help us develop and describe characters in greater detail. The children have enjoyed getting creative with their descriptions and are already beginning to use some fantastic vocabulary!

In Maths, we have been exploring place value to 1,000. The children have been learning how to partition numbers and have been practising placing numbers accurately on a number line. We have been developing our understanding of the value of each digit and using different representations to help us explain our thinking.

We have also begun many of our exciting foundation subjects. Our topics for this half term are:

• Science – Animals Including Humans: food chains, teeth and the digestive system
• RE – What kind of world did Jesus want?: the Gospels, disciples and Bible stories
• DT – Catapults: designing and constructing our own catapults
• Geography – Extreme Earth: volcanoes and earthquakes
• PSHE – Me and My Relationships: exploring feelings and relationships
• PE – Health and Wellbeing: agility, mindfulness and dance
• Computing – Computing Systems and Networks
• Music – Rock and Roll

Home Learning

Reading

Reading books have been sent home this week. The children will have the same reading day as they had last year. Please make sure that reading books and reading records are brought into school on your child's reading day so that they can be checked and stamped. We are looking forward to seeing lots of children working towards their reading badges throughout the year!

Please ensure your child to reads at least five times each week and records each reading session in their reading record. Reading records should then be signed by an adult at home.

Doodle Learning

Please can children complete their baseline activities for English, Maths and Spelling on Doodle Learning. These baselines will help us set their starting points and support their learning throughout the year.

Dates of your diary

We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday 16th for our Meet the Teacher session. This will be a great opportunity to share more about the year ahead and answer any questions you may have.
