Friday 11th September

Welcome to Year 3!

It has been an absolute pleasure to welcome the children back to school and watch them settle into the next stage of their educational journey in Key Stage 2.

We’ve had a busy week in Year 3 as we have begun to explore our new topics for the half-term.

In English, we have fully explored all five sections of our new model text and have begun to work on two of our featured writing toolkits.

In Maths, we have been exploring place value in a variety of ways. Next week, we will build on this by looking at numbers up to 1,000.

Foundation Subjects

In Science, we have been learning about igneous rocks and how they are formed from magma, both beneath and above the Earth’s surface.

In PSHE, we have been thinking about why we have rules and what life would be like if we didn’t have any.

In History, we are jumping back in time to the prehistoric era and will be exploring the Stone Age through to the Iron Age. This week, we looked at timelines and explored the term AD.

In Art, we will be linking our art learning with our history topic. This week, we have started exploring cave art and shone a light on the famous Lion Man sculpture, which was created using mammoth ivory over 40,000 years ago.

In RE, we have begun our topic on the Trinity by exploring what the Bible tells us about Jesus’ baptism, as well as learning more about John the Baptist.

Home Learning

Doodle

Please do continue to support your child’s progress by accessing the Doodle Learning platform and ensuring they remain in the green zone for English, Maths and Times Tables.

Reading

The children have now all been allocated reading books. As in Year 2, please could you comment and sign each time your child reads, aiming for five times a week, so that we can issue star stamps on their reading trackers.

Going forward, you will find your child’s book-changing day written on the front cover of their new reading record.

Next Week

Our ‘Meet the Teacher’ session is due to take place on Monday 14th September at 9am in the classroom.  During this session, I will share further details about the Year 3 curriculum, routines and trips for the year ahead.

Please could any outstanding reading books from Year 2 be returned to me on Monday.
