What a fantastic start to Year 1 we have had! We are so proud of how well the children have settled into their new routines and classroom. They have been enthusiastic, curious and ready to learn, and it has been wonderful to see their confidence growing each day.

In Maths, we have been exploring numbers and grouping. The children have been developing their understanding of how numbers can be grouped and organised in different ways. We have enjoyed using practical resources to help us count, sort and explore numbers together.

In English, we have been focusing on handwriting, particularly the sizing of our letters. The children have been practising forming their letters carefully and thinking about keeping their writing a consistent size. We are encouraging everyone to take their time and develop good handwriting habits.

In RE, we have been learning about parables. We discovered that a parable is a story that teaches us an important lesson. We explored how some of Jesus' parables teach us about how we should treat and care for others, and the children enjoyed thinking about how these messages can be used in our own lives.

In Science, we have started exploring everyday materials. We have been thinking about what different objects are made from and learning about the materials we see and use around us every day. The children have been showing lots of curiosity and enthusiasm during our investigations.

In History, we have started learning about timelines and how they help us organise events in the order that they happened. The children have been developing their understanding of the past, present and the sequence of different events.

In PSHE, we have been exploring why we have rules. We have discussed how rules help to keep us safe, make sure everyone is treated fairly and help us to learn and play together happily. The children have shared some fantastic ideas about the rules we have in school and why they are important.

It has been a pleasure to see the children settling so confidently into Year 1. They have already shown such enthusiasm for their learning, and we are looking forward to all the exciting things we will discover and achieve together this year. Well done, Year 1!

Home learning

All children should now have their reading books. Please encourage your child to read 5 times over the next week. Each time they read, please record it in their reading record so that we can give them their stamps. We are looking forward to seeing lots of lovely reading this week!
