Friday 18th September 2026
It was great to see many of you on Tuesday morning for our 'Meet the Teacher' presentation. The presentation slides are now in the Resources section. If you were unable to make the meeting but have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. I am keen to work well together and bring out the best in your child.
This week we have really begun to get into our stride with our topics and with our routines. Everyone has been given a monitor role so at the end of the school day, the class is a flurry of activity as everyone organises their designated area:)
In English, we have learnt paragraphs 2 and 3 of 'The Pirate Quest' and are becoming familiar with 2 more tools in our toolkit: the Power of 3 and exclamation marks. We have learnt actions for each tool and have been practising using these in our writing. Next week, we will complete our text and begin to explore the final tool: using 'but' as a conjunction. As discussed in the Meet the Teacher presentation, as a school we have decided not to test spellings but to choose fewer Common Exception Words to focus on better.
This week's: there, they, after, again (2 Year 1 CEWs, 2 Year 2 CEWs). We will be practising these often in class; it would be really appreciated if you could do so as well at home.
In Maths, we have continued to embed our understanding of 2-digit numbers, using place value charts and partitioning. This will continue next week and we will also be looking at number lines, placing numbers correctly on a variety of number lines. Our fluency next week focusses on o'clock and half-past so do take the opportunity to support that, this weekend.
Foundation subjects:
PE: choreographing movements to look like a flowing river
Geography: revision of the 5 oceans and 7 continents
PSHCE: learning that we all express feelings in different ways
RE: thinking about what Christians learn from the story of Jonah
Music: exploring how sound effects work
Science: continued identifying properties of materials
Library day will be Friday. If your child would like to change their Library book, please send it in on a Friday.
Show and Tell: Theodore, Sidney, Sid, Sophia, Rosie
Please only bring in Show and Tell on a Tuesday. The topic/item is up to them!
Change Maker Project
This half-term, we are focusing on the value of ‘Friendship’. We discussed the 4 friendship activities during our class-based Collective Worship this week. Please could you support them at home to carry out their one chosen activity, and bring in some evidence to obtain a coveted sticker!
