Friday 25th September 2026

We have had a busy week in year 1.
This week in Maths, we have been introduced to the symbols for less than, greater than and equal to. The children have enjoyed exploring these new concepts through lots of fun, practical games and activities.
In English, we have focused on The Smartest Giant in Town, using the story to develop our vocabulary. The children have enjoyed finding and using adjectives to describe characters and objects.
In Science, we explored the properties of different materials and thought carefully about how and why materials are suitable for different purposes. We enjoyed investigating these ideas through thought experiments.
In PE, we explored how we can move like small animals, focusing on using small, controlled movements and thinking carefully about how our bodies can move in different ways.
In History, we used photographs and pictures from children’s lives to create personal timelines. This helped us to think about events in our past and how we have changed and grown over time.
Home learning
Please keep reading weekly 5 times and recording it in their reading records.
Next week we are going to be giving out weekly handwriting and rocket words. These need to be practised reading and writing, to ensure the children know how to spell them and read them.
