Year 6 Weekly Learning Update
It has been another busy and exciting week in Year 6! Here is a look at what we have been learning across the curriculum.
In English, we have been exploring how dialogue can be used to reveal a character’s emotions and feelings. We have also been consolidating our use of colons to link two clauses. We have now finished learning our model text and are looking forward to applying what we have learned to our own writing.
In Maths, we have been learning about factors and multiples - two mathematical terms that are often confused! We identified divisibility rules and explored prime numbers. We also learnt that composite numbers are whole numbers greater than 1 that have more than two factors.
In Guided Reading, to mark Deaf Awareness Week, we thought about what it means to be an ally. We read an article exploring different ways we can support people who are deaf or hard of hearing and considered how we can promote greater understanding and inclusion.
In RE, we focused on the theme of forgiveness. We explored Luke 23:33–34, when Jesus, as he was dying on the cross, said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” We discussed what this teaches Christians about forgiveness and considered how we can apply this message to situations in our own lives.
In DT, we have finished designing our playgrounds! We have made sure that our designs are fun and safe, while including somewhere to hide, something to climb and something that moves. We can’t wait to see our designs brought to life next week!
In PSHE, we thought about the advice we could offer to someone experiencing friendship difficulties. This gave us an opportunity to develop our problem-solving skills and consider positive ways to navigate friendship issues, while recognising when it is important to seek support from an adult.
In Geography, we learnt how to use grid references to help us map out the journey we will take through Rickmansworth during our upcoming Geography field trip on Wednesday 30th September. We are looking forward to putting our map-reading skills into practice!
In Spelling, we explored the -cial and -tial suffixes. We learnt that -cial is generally used when the suffix follows a vowel, while -tial is generally used when it follows a consonant. We practised applying these rules to help us spell words accurately.
We can't wait for you to see the Harvest Festival next Thursday at St Mary's Church.
Well done, Year 6, for another fantastic week of learning! We are excited to see what next week brings.
