Friday 25th September 2026
We have had a busy week in Year 2 and have enjoyed exploring both our text all about Captain McGraw as well as two alternative texts to extend our vocabulary and experience, ready to write our own stories. 'The Pirate Cruncher' and 'The Eyebrows of Doom' both drew gasps and laughter from the class. Next week's 'Inside the Villains' is another fantastic book, which I am confident the class will enjoy. We have been focusing on using 'but' as a conjunction, and exclamation marks.
In Maths, we have learnt to place numbers on a number line, ready to compare 2-digit numbers next week. We had great fun using arrow cards and bead strings to support our learning. Next week, we will complete our place value topic and begin embedding number bonds to 10 and 20.
We are looking forward to welcoming a visitor in next week's RE lesson who is coming to talk to us about why Christians sing in Church.
Our Harvest festival service is on Thursday so please drop off your child, at St Mary's Church at 8:45/8:50am ready for our 9am service in smart uniform. If you can stay and walk back to school with us, that would be really appreciated. All food and toiletries donations will be going to the Foodbank charity.
Library books can be changed on Friday next week.
Show and Tell for Tuesday afternoon: Oscar, Noah, Niamh, Maggie, Louis, Korina,
Homework
Our spellings / ‘Words of the Week’ will be: to, today, any, many. Please practise these regularly at home so that they become completely automatic – we want every child to have overlearnt them and be able to spell them without even having to think about it!
Please encourage your child to read 5 times a week and sign the Reading Record to show this.
