Friday 2nd October 2026

It has been another busy and exciting week of learning!

English
In English this week, we have been boxing up our model text and using it to help us create a plan for our own version. The children have been thinking carefully about the structure, vocabulary and features they want to include in their writing.

 SATs Preparation
Across the week, the children have had their first experience of SATs-style papers. This is a valuable opportunity for them to become familiar with the structure, format and different question styles they will encounter.

The papers include two Maths reasoning papers, an Arithmetic paper, a Spelling paper, a Grammar paper and a Reading Comprehension paper. Alongside these formal assessments, we continue to assess the children’s written work throughout the year to build a broad picture of their progress and attainment.

DT
Our playgrounds are really starting to take shape! In DT, we have been busy building our own playgrounds based on the designs we created. The children have worked carefully to turn their ideas into reality, and the finished models are looking incredible!

Geography
In Geography, we created questionnaires and Likert scales based on the areas our groups were investigating. We then headed out into the local area to collect responses. The children represented our school beautifully, approaching members of the public politely and confidently to ask them to take part.

Next, we will compile and analyse our results before creating presentations to share what we have discovered.

 Science
Our latest Science experiment didn't quite produce the results we had expected when investigating osmosis and diffusion. Instead, we ended up with something rather unexpected... inflated gummy bears!

Although the experiment didn't go exactly to plan, it provided us with a great opportunity to think like scientists, consider why our results were different from our predictions and discuss what we could change if we repeated the investigation.

 Spelling
In Spelling, we have been exploring words ending in ‘fer’ and investigating whether the final r is doubled or remains single when a suffix is added. We have been applying these rules to words such as appearance and preferred.

Guided Reading
During Guided Reading, we explored an excerpt from The House with Chicken Legs, developing our comprehension skills and discussing the characters, events and language used by the author.

In RE we were delighted to welcome Jane Perry from Wellspring Church, who spent time talking with each class and sharing some really thought-provoking messages. We explored the theme of forgiveness, inspired by the work of Desmond Tutu in South Africa. Jane also shared stories from her own experiences supporting people in Uganda, helping the children understand how forgiveness can make a difference in our lives and relationships.

Jane brought the message to life with a fantastic visual demonstration using three jars.

🥤 Coca-Cola represented how bitterness can cloud us and prevent our light from shining.

💧 Tonic water showed how, when we let go of bitterness, the light can begin to shine through.

💗 Finally, with the help of the Holy Spirit — represented by a squeeze of highlighter pink ink — the tonic water began to glow brightly under the UV light, symbolising how forgiveness can shine from within us.

It was a memorable and engaging way for the children to think about what forgiveness means and the positive impact it can have on our lives.

Thank you for all the food gifts sent in yesterday at our Harvest service, and also for the grown-ups who were able to join us, and then accompany the class back to school. It was appreciated.
