Friday 2nd October

We have had fun using our tools in English this week: the Power of 3 and 2A phrases, using inspiration drawn from 'Inside the Villains', a brilliant book which focuses on the fairy tale characters of the wolf, the giant and the witch. I am looking forward to next week's 'Boxing and Hugging' where we begin to write our own versions based closely on the text.
In Maths, we have completed our unit on place value and spent time revisiting number bonds to 10 and 20. Please revise these at home with your child - the quicker and better they know number bonds, the easier it makes many other aspects of Maths. We completed an assessment of place value and this will be shared with you at Parents Evenings.
Foundation subjects:
RE: we shone a light on Nigel Hemming - composer of many Christian songs for children and families. We are looking forward to welcoming a visitor in next week's RE lesson who is coming to talk to us about why Christians sing in Church.
PE: choreographed a motif for a sea creature in pairs; discussed and practised 'unison'
Music: completed out unit on 'Soundstracks and dynamics/tempo with a brilliant lesson using percussion instruments to create a simple soundtrack for the story of Jack and the Beanstalk. I heard some fantastic musical talk, showing good understanding:)
PSHCE: learning what a good friend is and does
Next week, we are going to begin our Art unit on painting and Van Gogh.
Thank you for all the food gifts sent in yesterday at our Harvest service, and also for the grown-ups who were able to join us, and then accompany the class back to school. It was appreciated.
Homework
Reading: Please keep reading 5 times a week and writing in/signing the Reading Record.
Words of the Week: push, pull, every, everybody
Please support your child to learn these spellings at home. These will be our focus in class too.
Show and Tell: Tuesday - Ilas, James, Jay, Judah, Jurialus
Changemaker Project: We are really looking forward to seeing the wonderful activities your child has been working on from the ‘Friendship’ value section. Please continue supporting them as they collect and record evidence of their chosen activity. There 2 weeks left to complete a challenge, and we will be awarding special stickers for completed activities.
Pirate Day: On Tuesday 20th October, Captain Bushybeard will be returning to find crew for his next treasure-seeking voyage. All of the class are invited to dress up in their best pirate outfit and we will spend the day, with Captain Bushybeard, making treasure maps and finding treasure close to home, practising both English and Geography skills throughout the day. We look forward to celebrating the completion of our pirate topic on that day!
