This half-term seems to be flying by! We have enjoyed our variety of topics this week, from dance to painting, 2A phrases to number bonds.

In our Art lessons we learnt how to mix primary colours to make secondary colours. We then used a range of tools and materials to make markings on top. The corrugated cardboard, ear buds and pegs were a particular hit! 

In Maths, we launched our next Maths unit: addition. Strategies  learnt so far: to use number bonds to 10 to support making 100, to add up to the next 10, to use what we know from a simple 1-digit number sentence to give a whole range of related facts.

In English, the class wrote their own 'hugged' version of 'The Pirate Quest' which stuck closely to the original, as we used this unit's tools to support making our writing interesting and detailed. Next week, they will be writing their own, original pirate story. We can't wait to show you the results at Parents Evening!  

Change Maker Project:

We had a flurry of challenges completed this week, from thoughtful Thank you cards to becoming a playground buddy supporting Reception. Please do encourage your child to spend some time this weekend, talking with you about how they can make a positive difference. There are just 2 weekends to go until evidence needs to be in to receive a coveted sticker in the final week of CW this half-term.

Parent Consultation:

Please do sign up for a slot to discuss your child's progress with me, on either Tuesday 20^th or Wednesday 21^st October. Next week you will receive an email with a mini report. This is to show, ahead of parents' evening consultations, your child's learning behaviours in Year 2 as well as a target for Maths, reading and writing. We will discuss these at the consultations.

Reading assessments will take place at the end of next week, ready to feed back at Parents Evening, so please do ensure that all books and Reading Records are in school for Friday next week.

Pirate Day - CHANGE OF DATE. Due to his enthusiasm to set sail with his new crew, Pirate Bushybeard will be returning to Year 2 on Monday 19^th October NOT as previously stated on Tuesday 20th. Please amend your diary accordingly! It would be great if your child could come to school dressed as a pirate on that day!  Thank you.
