Friday 16th October

We have had a fantastic week in Year 3, with lots of highlights! These included a thoroughly enjoyable poetry workshop with acclaimed poet Simon Mole and songwriter Gecko at Rickmansworth Library, as well as our fabulous trip to Celtic Harmony, where we immersed ourselves in life during the Stone Age.

A special thank you once again to Alex, Maeve, Norah and Sylvie’s mums, who kindly accompanied us on our trip. We really appreciate your support!

In English, we have been working hard to draft our own characterisation stories, incorporating the focus toolkits we have explored this half-term. Next week, we will be editing our work and beginning to write our final versions in our publishing books.

In Maths, we have been focusing on adding and subtracting 1, 10 and 100 from a given three-digit number.

Foundation Subjects

In History, we thoroughly enjoyed our class trip to Celtic Harmony, where we had the opportunity to experience aspects of life during the Stone Age.

In Art, we created our own class cave painting to represent everyone in Team Year 3!

In Science, we explored the process of fossilisation and learnt about Mary Anning, the famous English palaeontologist. We also had great fun creating our own fossil imprints using clay.

In PSHE, we explored the theme of discrimination and discussed how we can help to prevent it from happening to anyone in our school community.

Home Learning

Doodle - Please continue to support your child’s progress by accessing the Doodle Learning platform and aiming to remain in the green zone for English, Maths and Times Tables.

Reading - Please ensure that you listen to your child read at least five times during the week and sign their reading record each time. This will allow them to earn a star stamp in recognition of their efforts.

Spellings - There are no new spellings this week as we finish for the half-term break on Wednesday 21st October.

The Changemaker Project - Friendship Activity

A final reminder about our Changemaker Friendship Activity! Please support your child in completing the activity and ensure it is sent into school before Wednesday. We will be awarding the first of this year's stickers on Wednesday, and we are excited to celebrate the children's efforts to promote kindness and friendship.
