Friday 16th October

We have enjoyed our penultimate week before a very well-deserved half-term! Two great successes of the week have been:

  1. The completion of our pirate quest adventures. The class wrote very successful stories using our tools: 2a phrases, the conjunction 'but', Power of 3, exclamation marks, and were incredibly focused and enthusiastic all week to write. A huge well done Year 2! We can't wait for you to read these, next week, at our Parent evenings.

  2. Our dance on the topic of 'water'. Mrs Bennett and Year 6 came to watch our performance yesterday as we showed our choreography skills using 'unison' and 'canon'. Year 6 were extremely complimentary and remarked on our enthusiasm and good timing :)

We have also spent time learning different strategies for addition: adding 10 more, adding single digits together using our number bonds, adding up to the next multiple of 10. Please continue to support accuracy and speed of number bonds to 10 and 20, as these are the foundation for so much in Maths.

In RE, we welcomed a visitor from Wellspring Church in Watford, who brought his guitar and talked to the class about why Christians sing in worship. The class were extremely interested and it was lovely to see them so engaged in learning a new song and in asking questions.

In Geography, we have been preparing for Pirate Day on Monday, including tea-staining paper ready for map making, and learning why pirates wore eye patches. Please ensure that your child wears clothes suitable for our usual break times though!

In Science, Mrs Maxwell organised a carousel of activities exploring materials and many 'oohs' and 'aahs' were heard from the classroom! In PSHCE, we discussed the terms 'teasing' and 'bullying' and talked about the many different forms of bullying. In Art, we made mini collages using our primary and secondary paintings.

Please continue reading with your child each day and record tit in their reading record.
