Friday 16th October

We are into our penultimate week before half term and starting to bring to an end our different learning journeys!

In English, we finished planning and began our shared and independent write, editing as we go. We made a good attempt at incorporating a range of vocabulary and our toolkit features.

In Maths, we continued our topic of addition and subtraction. We practised adding and subtracting numbers with more than four digits as well as rounding to check answers.

In Guided Reading, we explored an extract about Katherine Johnson as part of our Black History themed week. Through repeated reading, we developed fluency, expression and understanding, considering how our voices bring a text to life. We explored the vocabulary graduated, achieved, complicated, aced, accomplish and trajectory, discussing how these words helped us understand her life and achievements.

In Art, we used a template to create a Saxon cross. We experimented with cardboard to create a relief effect by tearing, cutting, scoring and peeling. Thank you to everyone who brought in cardboard for this activity, we had plenty!

In Science, we explored levers and pulleys as two types of simple mechanisms that make lifting loads easier. We investigated how they work and explored some real-life examples.

In History, we explored what life was like in an Anglo-Saxon village and created an advert for a typical Anglo-Saxon job like a farmer, blacksmith or weaver.

Homework

Maths, English and Spelling have been set on Doodle Learning

Reading - please ensure pupils are reading at least five times a week. Our Spelling lessons this week have highlighted, with words such as ‘trough’ and ‘bough’, how important it is to still read parts of the story aloud to a family member.

The Changemaker Project - Friendship Activity

A final reminder about our Changemaker Friendship Activity! Please support your child in completing the activity and ensure it is sent into school before Wednesday. We will be awarding the first of this year's stickers on Wednesday, and we are excited to celebrate the children's efforts to promote kindness and friendship.
