Friday 16th October

It has been another busy and exciting week of learning! Here’s a look at what we have been getting up to across the curriculum.

Geography - We completed our Google Slide presentations, sharing our findings from our recent geography fieldwork. The children had the opportunity to reflect on their observations and communicate what they had discovered.

Maths - We explored a range of division strategies, thinking carefully about which methods to use and when. The children have been developing their understanding of how different approaches can help them solve division problems effectively.

Science - We investigated the impact of exercise on our heart rates. The children located their pulse points and measured their heart beats per minute, observing how physical activity affects our bodies.

English - We continued developing our writing by typing up our own versions of the model text and editing our stories as we went. We focused on including the key features from our writing toolkit. Using a variety of sentence structures and maintaining consistent verb tenses are areas we will continue to develop.

Guided Reading - To mark Black History Month, we explored an excerpt from Becoming by Michelle Obama. The children were fascinated by the contrasting experiences she encountered during her time as First Lady and enjoyed discussing the different aspects of her life and role.

Spelling - Our focus was the spelling pattern ‘ough’. We paid particular attention to the difference between brought (from the verb to bring) and bought (from the verb to buy), helping us to understand how these similar-looking words have different meanings.

Design and Technology - We evaluated the playground models we created, reflecting on our designs and the finished products. This was a wonderful opportunity for the children to consider what worked well, what could be improved and how effectively they collaborated as a team.

The Imperial War Museum

It was a pleasure to take Year 6 to the Imperial War Museum on Wednesday. They had a fantastic and informative trip. The children explored the WWI and WWII exhibitions, answering questionnaires to develop their knowledge and understanding of these important periods in history. They also visited the Childhood in War exhibition, gaining a valuable insight into how conflict has affected children’s lives. A real highlight was being shown a selection of fascinating objects from the museum’s Hands on History collection, which the children were able to handle and pass around, bringing history to life!  It was a wonderful opportunity to deepen their historical knowledge and engage with the past in a meaningful and memorable way.
