Keeping You in the Loop: Our Commitment to Communication

At St Mary’s, we’re really proud of how we keep you informed about your child’s learning and progress. We know that when school and home work closely together, children flourish – and that partnership is something we truly value.

Most primary schools offer two parent consultations a year and an end-of-year report. Here at St Mary’s, we’ve chosen to go further. After talking with our Parent Reps, we introduced Target Reports in both the autumn and spring terms last academic year. These include your child’s latest assessment information and individual targets, so you have a clear picture of how they’re doing and what they’re working on next.

We send these out a week before parent consultations so that you have time to read through and come to your meeting feeling prepared. Then, at the end of the year, you receive a final report celebrating your child’s progress and achievements.

Every half term, we also invite you into school for a Book Look – a valuable opportunity to see your child’s work first-hand and talk together about their learning.

For children on SEND Support or with an EHCP, there are termly plans and a short online meeting at the start of each term to review progress and discuss next steps.

So far this academic year, Reception and KS1 families have received their Autumn Target Reports and attended parent consultations, while KS2 families have had a Book Look.

Next half term, this will reverse:

• Reception and KS1 will be invited in for a Book Look

• KS2 will receive their Target Reports and attend parent consultations

And of course, our door is always open. If you feel you need to meet about any concerns, please just ask – we’re always happy to meet when needed.

I do want to take a moment to say how incredibly hard our staff work to make all of this possible. Every report, meeting and plan takes time, care and thought. Staff go above and beyond for every single child, and I see that dedication every day. Please do keep this in mind and be considerate of their workload when requesting additional meetings or updates. They truly give their all for our children.

We’re proud to go that extra mile because we believe your partnership makes all the difference. Thank you for working with us.
