14th November

We have had a varied, interesting week in Year 2, learning about the life of Christopher Columbus - an explorer beyond living memory - ready for our exciting trip on Monday. As well as this we have contemplated the sacrifice made by so many people over the years in times of war. We reflected as Year 5 led us in a thoughtful act of Remembrance on Tuesday. We have also talked about anti-bullying and reminded ourselves what bullying is (Several Times On Purpose) and practised how to react in a difficult situation. Please encourage your child to role play with you at home.

In English this week we have been practising using the tools: generalisers and comparative sentences, writing creatively about what monsters like to eat and where they might live. Next week, we will revisit using a Power of 3 and 2A phrases, as well as being inspired by reading some alternative texts: 'Big Book of the Blue' and 'Emperors of the Ice'.

In Maths we have completed our strategies of addition, having worked very hard to understand how to exhange 10 ones for 1 ten, and regroup. Lots of great concentration and resilience has been shown this week! Next week - subtraction strategies!

We have begun learning songs for our Nativity and are enjoying singing about angels, shepherds and wise men! We look forward to sharing our efforts with you on Thursday 11th December when we will be performing at 9:30am and again at 2pm.

Golden Hinde trip - please dress your child in warm uniform on Monday as the weather is predicted to be cold and we are outside for the whole day. (The ship is very airy!) We look forward to meeting you at Rickmansworth train station at 8:40am on Monday morning complete with a packed lunch, water bottle and sensible shoes. They will need a small rucksack in which to carry their own lunch and drink. Our grateful thanks to the eight parents who are accompanying us on Monday. We appreciate your time and support.

Home Learning

Please continue to read and sign the Reading Record book five times each week and complete the spelling activities.

Doodle Learning – the children completed their baseline assessments in maths and English on Thursday. Please can the children achieve the stars needed to be in the green zone on Friday morning for maths and English. Children can also use the times table and spelling zones if they would like.

Thank you for your continued support.
