The end of another busy and rewarding week!
Thank you to everyone who met with me during Parent Consultations. It was a pleasure to share and celebrate the children’s fantastic work and progress.

English
This week, the children completed their Non-Chronological Report Hot Write. They worked hard to include all the key features from our toolkit: subheadings, parenthesis, rhetorical questions, relative clauses, commas in a list, fronted adverbials of time or manner, and generalisers. After peer-editing their writing, they carefully published their final pieces. Well done, Year 4!

Guided Reading

We turned our attention to the Sainsburys advert from 2014 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NWF2JBb1bvM ). We talked about the thoughts and feelings of the characters, pausing at different points to talk about this and note down our ideas. It sparked an incredibly thought provoking discussion about what the soldiers endured.

Maths
In Maths, we focused on dividing by 6 and identifying multiples of 6 within larger numbers. For example, when dividing 84 by 6, we partitioned it into 60 and 24. Since 60 ÷ 6 = 10 and 24 ÷ 6 = 4, we were able to see that 84 ÷ 6 = 14. The class also worked on improving their speed and accuracy when completing multiplication grids.

History
We explored the uniforms worn by Roman soldiers and delved into a day in the life of a Roman soldier—learning some surprising (and rather shocking!) facts about their toileting habits! Using this new knowledge, the children wrote their own non-chronological reports. As part of our Roman workshop activities, the class also created clay pots with wonderful, unique designs. Their creativity was brilliant to see.

Science
In Science, we began by classifying animals into vertebrates (those with a backbone—mammals, birds, fish) and invertebrates (those without—such as insects, jellyfish, and snails). The children then used the Chromebooks to create branching databases to sort animals based on their features. We also compared cold-blooded and warm-blooded animals, and the class produced excellent posters clearly showing the differences.

Art
This week in Art, we spent time completing our final pieces for our Cloth, Thread and Paint project. The children developed many new skills and showed great patience and perseverance while stitching elements into their designs. Their finished work is truly impressive.

It was also a joy to take the class to the pantomime—seeing their excitement and enjoyment made the trip extra special!

Homework
This week, please focus on Times Tables Rock Stars. There are no new Doodle assignments, but the daily six tasks are available for continued practice.
A quick reminder about the Changemaker task for Compassion—we will be awarding stickers next week to everyone who has completed at least one activity.
