12th December

We have had an enchanting week in Year 3.  Firstly, we had the pleasure of being invited to watch the Reception and KS1 nativity productions. Then on Tuesday, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, when we went see the Beauty and the Beast pantomime at Watersmeet theatre.

In English, we have completed our draft for our Non-Chronological report on the River Nile and cannot wait to publish these next week.

In Maths, we have started our unit on Multiplication & Division. This week we focused on grouping and using arrays.

Foundation Subjects:

Geography – We completed our research on the River Nile discovering many fascinating facts about this famous river.

DT – We completed our design options page and started to measure the pieces we will need to cut to make the outer frame of our locomotives.

*Please could you save and send in any empty shoes boxes, as we will need to use these to construct the outer shell.

Science – We conducted an investigation into how shadows are formed, and how these change in size when a light source moves further away from the object.

Home Learning:

Doodle - Please continue to support your child’s progress by accessing the Doodle Learning platform and remaining in the green zone for English, Maths and Times tables.

Reading - Please ensure that you have listened to your child read at least five times during the week and signed their reading record each time, so that they can be rewarded with a star stamp for their efforts.

Spellings - This will resume after the holidays.

Change maker project – Please do send in any evidence your child has collected of the task they chose from the Compassion section of the Change maker project.  We are really looking forward to seeing and celebrating their efforts with them. Stickers for completing these tasks will be awarded during collective worship on 18th December.

Competition time -   We are looking for some budding artists who would like to design a front cover for our KS2 carol service.  The front cover would need to be design on one side of A4 paper, and feature something related to the Nativity story.   These will need to be completed over the weekend and submitted back to me on Monday.

Next week:

We have our KS2 carol service on Wednesday 17th at St Marys Church, the service starts at 6pm and children will need to be dressed in their smart school uniform.

Finally, we finish at 1.15pm on Friday 19th for a well deserved Christmas break.

I wish you all a wonderful festive weekend

Mrs Collett
