5th December

We have enjoyed returning to our beloved Year 3 classroom and feel right at home again!

In English, we have now covered all of our remaining toolkits and are now preparing to start drafting our own reports, which will focus on the River Nile. If you have a moment over the weekend, it would be a lovely opportunity for your child to do some research on the River Nile, which they could bring in on Monday to share with the class.

In Maths, we have now completed our unit on addition and subtraction and will be moving on to multiplication and division next week. This new unit will see a focus on the 2, 5, 10, 3, 4 and 8 times tables.

Foundation Subjects:

Geography – We explored the various uses for rivers and conducted our own research on the River Nile.

DT – We shone a light on George Stephenson and started to design the outside shell for our own locomotives. We will be working on the skills needed to make each of the locomotive components over the next few weeks.

PSHE - We reflected on what makes us similar and different, exploring how our unique qualities shape our experiences.

Home Learning:

Doodle - Please continue to support your child’s progress by accessing the Doodle Learning platform and remaining in the green zone for English, Maths and Times tables.

Reading - Please ensure that you have listened to your child read at least five times during the week and signed their reading record each time, so that they can be rewarded with a star stamp for their efforts.

Spellings - Below are this week’s spelling words to practise with your child, both in isolation as well as writing them in a sentence.

soon,   afternoon,   rescue,   drew,   Tuesday,   through,   chew,   blue

Change maker project – This half term we are focusing on the value of Compassion.  Please do continue supporting your child as they collect and record evidence for their chosen activity. Stickers for completing these tasks will be awarded during the last week of term.

Next week:

On Tuesday 9th, we have our annual outing to Watersmeet theatre to see their wonderful pantomime.

I also look forward to meeting with you all on one of our two parents' evenings (Wednesday 10th or Thursday 11th).    Please do let us know if you are experiencing any problems with booking a time slot.

I wish you all a relaxing weekend

Mrs Collett
