28th November
This week we have enjoyed a variety of activities from the 3-legged walk on Monday, to taking part in a Christmas decoration themed family group afternoon. We have also started to learn our song for the KS2 carol service and cannot wait to share this with you, as we have also added a little something extra special to enhance our performance!
In English, we explored some of the other tool kits for our Pirate Cove Island text; these have included Subordinating conjunctions to join clauses, PC (paired conjunction) sentences and Adverbials for cause to explain reasons in writing.
In Maths, we have continued to build upon our knowledge of column addition and subtraction and how to carry across from the 1’s and 10’s columns; this has also been set as an assignment for this week’s Doodle homework.
Foundation Subjects:
Science – This week we explored the theme of reflective materials and tested some to see which ones reflected the most amount of light.
Geography – We used atlases and Google Earth to locate some of the world’s most famous rivers.
R.E - We generated questions and interviewed a Christian to find out what Christmas means to them and how their beliefs influence the way they live their life.
PSHE - We reflected on what makes us similar and different, exploring how our unique qualities shape our experiences.
P.E - We focused on improving our netball skills by learning the correct posture for shooting. We practiced these techniques and are excited to use them in mini games starting next week!
Home Learning:
Doodle - Please continue to support your child’s progress by accessing the Doodle Learning platform and remaining in the green zone for English, Maths and Times tables.
Reading - Please ensure that you have listened to your child read at least five times during the week and signed their reading record each time, so that they can be rewarded with a star stamp for their efforts.
Spellings - Below are this week’s spelling words to practise with your child, both in isolation as well as writing them in a sentence.
home, spoke, phone, hopeful, goes, soap, toes, potatoes
Change maker project – This half term we are focusing on the value of Compassion. Your child will have selected an activity in collective worship this week that they wish to work on. Please do continue supporting them as they collect and record evidence of their chosen activity.
Please could I kindly ask for some donations of boxes of tissues for our class, as we have a number of runny noses now that the weather has started to get colder. Many thanks
Wishing you all a lovely weekend
Mrs Collett
