21st November

What a busy week we have had in Year 5!

In English, we have been continuing to analyse the different features of a non-chronological report and consider how these can affect our writing. We have also looked at how we can begin to write an introduction where we begin to reveal details about the rest of our text without giving away all the information.

We have consolidated our unit of multiplication and division in our Maths lessons by understanding that we can use multiples of 10, 100 and 1,000 to help us tackle questions like 30 x 12.

In DT, we have begun the construction of our automata frames. It was fantastic to see everyone following the directions of how to correctly assemble their frame and problem solve when the pieces of wood didn't line up correctly.

We have been practising our active listening skills in PSHE and considering what how we want others to perceive us. We have considered how easily it can be to misread a situation and how not everyone shows attention in a conversation equally.

The highlight of this week has most certainly been our trip to see Starlight Express. The children were exceptionally well behaved and really set a fabulous example to others and represented St Mary's amazingly. It was lovely to see the children make connections to our current Music unit of the blues and recognise a song structure of the 12 bar blues!

Home Learning

Please ensure that children are 'in the green' on Doodle.

There are assignments set across English, Maths and Spelling which when completing will not only help with the current and upcoming learning but help children get into the green.

Please ensure that children are reading out loud to an adult five times a week. This really supports their reading fluency and gives you an opportunity to help them read unfamiliar words.

Have a lovely weekend!
