Mini Police
What a wonderful few days back we have had in Year 5!
In English, we have started exploring our model text for our new writing unit on setting descriptions. The children have begun creating pictorial representations to embed the order of the narrative.
In Maths, we have been working on subtracting fractions, including those involving mixed numbers. The children have been practising how to convert between improper fractions and mixed numbers, as well as finding common denominators to help them solve more complex calculations. Their perseverance has been fantastic to see.
In Geography, we have begun our single‑use plastic diary. The children have started tracking the plastic items they use each day and reflecting on how these choices impact the environment. This has already sparked some thoughtful discussions about sustainability and small changes we can make at home and in school.
In Collective Worship, the children received their compassion stickers for the wonderful work they completed last half term. It was lovely to celebrate their kindness, empathy and the positive ways they support others in and out of school. They also were introduced to the new tasks for the Changemaker project. Almost all children completed a task last half term so it would be brilliant to get everyone taking part this half term!
We also had our very first Mini Police session this week. The children were introduced to the programme, met the officers leading the sessions and learnt about the role they will play in helping our school and wider community. Their excitement and curiosity made it a brilliant start.

Please continue to encourage children to read aloud to an adult five times a week. This regular practice builds fluency and confidence and helps them tackle new vocabulary.
Wishing you all a lovely weekend!
