Friday 9th January

Happy New Year! Welcome back! I do hope you all had a wonderful festive break and feel excited about starting the Spring Term.
Firstly, I wanted to send my heartfelt thanks to you all for the kind Christmas gifts that you gave us at the end of last term.
In English, we have uncovered the theme for our new model text that focusses on narrative settings, and involves going through a portal to discover a whole new world. We are all very excited about this theme and cannot wait to see where our story will take us next.
In Maths, we are continuing with our unit on Multiplication & Division. This week we focused on multiples of 2, 5 and 10. Next week we will be moving onto looking at grouping and then multiples of 3 and 4.
Foundation Subjects:
History – We were excited to start our new topic that on the Egyptians. This week we learnt that this period in history began in approximately 3100BC. We then looked at why the river Nile was so important to this civilisation and even learnt some of the Egyptian words they used to describe this river.
Art & DT – This half-term we will be continuing with our moving locomotive project by having a focus day for constructing these next month. For our new Art topic, we have started to look at Pop Art and have had a go at recreating some of the work produced by famous artists linked with this movement.
Home Learning:
Doodle – Please continue to support your child’s progress by accessing the Doodle Learning platform and remaining in the green zone for English, Maths and Times tables.
Reading – Please ensure that you have listened to your child read at least five times during the week and signed their reading record each time, so that they can be rewarded with a star stamp for their efforts.
Spellings – Below are this week’s spelling words to practise with your child, both in isolation and writing them in a sentence.
door, floor, mind, behind, children, because
Have a lovely weekend
