Friday 16th January

What a brilliant week we have had in Year 5!
In English, the children have been exploring alternative texts to help them identify key toolkit features for our new writing unit. One of the texts we examined was Clockwork by Philip Pullman, which sparked some fantastic discussions about atmosphere, suspense and descriptive detail.
In Maths, we have been revisiting multiplication, focusing on multiplying a 3‑digit number by a 1‑digit number and will be progressing to multiplying by a 2‑digit number. The children have shown great determination as they practised setting out their calculations accurately and checking their answers.
In Geography, we began our new unit on 'Where does our food come from.' The children learned to recognise different biomes and explored which foods come from each one. This led to some thoughtful conversations about climate, farming and how food reaches our plates.
In Music, the children enjoyed learning about the different parts of a ukulele and how each part contributes to the sound it produces. Their curiosity and enthusiasm made the lesson especially enjoyable.
Our Mini Police session this week focused on understanding anti‑social behaviour and road safety. The children engaged maturely with the discussions and asked insightful questions about how they can help keep themselves and others safe in the community.
I was incredibly proud of the class for taking part in the cross country event this week. Even with the weather not being at its best!
Home Learning

Please continue to encourage children to read aloud to an adult five times a week. This regular practice builds fluency, confidence and a love of reading.
