16th January 2026
It’s been a busy week in Year 1 with lots of learning across the curriculum.
In Maths, we started working with numbers from 10 to 20 and explored how these numbers are made. We practised breaking them apart and putting them back together to build confidence and understanding.
In English, we have been learning about settings and how to describe them clearly so the reader can picture the place. We also continued to focus on handwriting, reminding ourselves that tall letters need to stand taller than the others.
In Science, we learned about our body parts and the five senses, thinking about how they help us explore the world around us.
In RE, we were introduced to Judaism and learned that a mitzvah is a good deed. We discussed how mitzvot are written in the Torah and shared thoughtful ideas about kindness and helping others.
In History, we enjoyed looking at each other’s toys and investigating what they can do and what they are made from. This helped us think about materials and how toys work.
In PE, we explored making wide shapes in gymnastics and practised working safely and carefully. We also played team-building games where helping each other was the key to success.
In Music, we began learning about tempo and explored the difference between fast and slow music, noticing how it changes the feel of a piece.
To support learning at home, please continue to read at least five times a week and record this in your child’s reading record. Spellings have gone out this week, so regular practice will be helpful. Please also keep up with handwriting practice, ensuring letters are formed correctly.
Thank you for your continued support.
